Results of the South Central

We had almost 40 players that braved the cold temperatures and the huge snowdrifts to compete in the ICA South Central Regional Scholastic Chess tournament! Well, not actually. The tournament was online, hosted on Chess.com. The K-5 Section was the largest with 18 players. The results were noteworthy in that both Nosarev boys got on the podium. Vladis Nosarev took a clean first with a 4.5 score. Emma Gao edged out Liam Nosarev on tiebreaks for second. It’s always cool to see girls on the podium. The results of the 6-8 section were interesting as well in that we had Andrew Beck, returning to ICA for his first qualifier of the season, securing a clean first with 3 points. Ashton Halsey got second with 2 and Daniel Yang got third on tie breaks, slipping past Nash Pettey and Cole Kizmol. In the 9-12 section, it was once again Lincoln Whitney took first place. This time with 4 out of 5 points. Bryce Leifeste and Darwin Porth shared second place with scores of 3.5 and identical tiebreaks. Seven additional players qualified today. Congratulations everyone!

The next qualifier is the Western and it’s on the 27th. WISCL is on the 20th. And State is on March 20!
