It is with great sadness that one of my chess mentors, Barry Eacker contacted me with the news of another chess mentor's passing. Fred was an awesome teacher, tough competitor, and ferocious smack-talker. He lavished at a game where he could use combinations that stunned his prey. But was always willing to teach the new player his tricks and treats. My children grew up and developed at the Magic Valley Chess Club, Barnes & Noble, in Twin Falls. He was 92 years old. We will miss him. I wonder who his last game was with? I will try to post one of my games with him.
