    Parents and Coaches Meeting Results

I would like to thank Julie Nahlen, John Nahlen, David Baumann, George Lundy, Michael Henderson, Alise Pemsler, and Dianxiang Xu for taking the time to share your enthusiasm and expertise at the Parents and Coaches Meeting. Your input was invaluable and we were already able to update the website, fix flyers, and hopefully reduce any confusion in the scholastic chess program. We all have a huge responsibility to provide children with the best possible program and our efforts

    2017 WRECC Results

We were only expecting a handful, but then they just kept coming! In one's, two's, then 5's! I became overwhelmed as numerous kids began to register for the 2017 Wood River Elementary Chess Championship. Thanks to Kristy Turco's beating drum (and heart for chess!), 14 kids came from Hailey Elementary to play while Deb Van Law's encouraging aura brought 19 from Alturas! In all, 40 kids participated in the annual event that began as Nick Bruck's Senior Project. Last year o

    Otto's Simul

Otto Olson is one of the BCSD stars of the chess club. In preparation for Supernationals, Otto performed a simul at the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition's "Find Your Passion" function on Wednesday night after chess club. This celebration displayed numerous groups and their activities that youth could participate in and also Blaine County Youth Week. Giant chess was also another chess opportunity for children in attendance. The Mountain Bike Club, W.A.T.E.R., Girls o

Representative VanOrden is Vice Chair on the Education Committee and was very pleased to learn about opportunities that the Idaho Chess Association is providing youths in Idaho. Though no decisions were made, the meeting was a successful information-sharing session. After
